dumb.today is an independent online magazine for people who find the world more interesting than it has any right to be. We publish original, long-form articles on weird facts, strange history, odd inventions, unusual science, bizarre records, and fascinating mysteries — the stories that sound made up until you look them up.

The site was founded in 2024 by a small team of writers, editors and fact-checkers who were tired of seeing genuinely fascinating material flattened into ten-second video captions. Every article on dumb.today is built to be read in full: properly sourced, properly edited, and written in a way that respects your time.

What we cover

We organize our work into six recurring beats — weird facts, strange history, odd inventions, unusual science, bizarre records, and fascinating mysteries. Within each beat we look for stories where the popular summary is missing a crucial detail, where the official record is more interesting than the legend, or where a "boring" subject turns out to be hiding something genuinely strange. If a fact only exists because one viral post said so, we don't publish it.

Editorial standards

Every article is written by a human editor, sourced from primary material (academic papers, archives, museum records, court documents, official record holders) and reviewed for accuracy before publication. When sources conflict or a fact is contested, we say so plainly in the article itself rather than hiding the uncertainty.

How we make money

dumb.today is supported by display advertising delivered through Google AdSense. Ads are clearly distinguished from editorial content and never influence our reporting. We do not accept paid placements, sponsored articles, or affiliate links disguised as recommendations. If we ever publish sponsored content in the future, it will be labeled "Sponsored" at the top of the page and clearly separated from our editorial work.
